The Custom Boot Journey: What to Expect When You Order Bespoke

A Boot Made for You, From Start to Finish

Ordering a pair of bespoke boots is one of the most rewarding decisions a rider can make. But for many, the process feels mysterious — a world of craftspeople, measurements, and lead times that seems inaccessible. At Hello Quality Equestrian, we believe the bespoke journey should be as enjoyable as the boots themselves. Here is exactly what to expect.

Step 1: The Consultation

Every bespoke order begins with a conversation. We want to understand how you ride, what disciplines you practise, what you love (and don't love) about your current boots, and what you are hoping to achieve with your new pair. This consultation can happen in person at our showroom or remotely via video call.

We will also discuss your aesthetic preferences — leather type, colour, finish, hardware, and any personalisation details you have in mind.

Step 2: Measurements

Next comes the measurement session. We take a comprehensive set of measurements of both feet, including length, width, instep height, calf circumference at multiple points, and ankle circumference. We note any asymmetries between left and right — because almost everyone has them — and factor these into the custom last.

If you are ordering remotely, we will send you a detailed measurement guide and template to complete at home, with video support if needed.

Step 3: Material Selection

With your measurements confirmed, you will select your materials. We will guide you through our leather options — full-grain hides in a range of colours and finishes — and help you choose the combination that best suits your riding and your style. We will also discuss sole options, heel heights, and any hardware or stitching details.

Step 4: The Build

Once your specifications are confirmed and your deposit is received, your boots enter the workshop. Our craftspeople build your custom last, cut your leather, and begin the construction process. This is where the magic happens — and it takes time. Our standard lead time for bespoke orders is 8–12 weeks, depending on complexity and current workshop capacity.

We will keep you updated throughout the process and welcome questions at any stage.

Step 5: Fitting and Delivery

For local clients, we offer a fitting appointment before final finishing, allowing us to make any adjustments before the boots are completed. For remote clients, we build in a generous break-in allowance and offer alterations if needed after delivery.

Your boots arrive finished, conditioned, and ready to ride — along with care instructions to keep them in perfect condition for years to come.
